Terry Black’s Barbecue Is Heading to Nashville — and It’s a $12M Bet on Brisket

Texas BBQ chain might be packing its bags. According to reports, Terry Black’s Barbecue is moving closer to opening its first-ever out-of-state location—and it’s landing in none other than Nashville.

Here’s what we know: Black Family Hospitality, the group behind Terry Black’s, reportedly secured two permits totaling more than $12 million for new restaurants in Music City. One permit (about $9M) covers the shell of a building that will house two full-service restaurants with a shared kitchen. The second ($3.42M) kicks off the build-out phase.

What’s Coming

  • Terry Black’s Barbecue (hello, brisket)
  • Opal’s Oysters (because surf and turf)

Earlier this year, a four-building site in Nashville’s Germantown area sold for $7.2 million, with ties pointing back to Terry Black’s ownership—fueling speculation that the expansion was already in motion.

While the company hasn’t officially confirmed the move, this would be a major milestone. Founded in 2014 by fourth-generation pitmasters Michael and Mark Black, Terry Black’s broke away from the family’s legendary Lockhart roots to build a modern Texas BBQ empire. Since then, it’s expanded across Texas, with locations in Austin, Dallas, Lockhart, Waco, Fort Worth, and more on the way.
